Gulabi Kantha Trek – The Hidden Gem of the Garhwal Himalayas

The Gulabi Kantha trek is an easy-to-moderate trail nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Starting from Hanuman Chatti, this relatively lesser-known trek leads adventurers to a breathtaking high-altitude meadow (bugyal) perched at around 12,430 feet (3,790 meters).

True to its name, which translates to “Pink Mountain”, Gulabi Kantha comes alive during spring with blooming rhododendron flowers, painting the landscape in shades of pink and red. The trek is a perfect blend of serene alpine forests, lush green meadows, and stunning panoramic views of majestic Himalayan peaks, including Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini.

Ideal for those seeking solitude away from the more crowded trails, Gulabi Kantha offers an immersive experience in nature, culture, and high-altitude beauty—making it a perfect offbeat alternative for nature lovers and first-time trekkers alike.

Day 1- 26 Jan 26

  • Arrival at Dehradun – Transfer to Hanuman Chatti
  • Drive: 172 km (5-6 hrs)
  • Night stay:  Guest house / Home stary
  • Meals: Evening Snacks, Dinner

Your journey begins early in the morning from Dehradun Railway Station, where Nisarga Bhraman will arrange transport to Hanuman Chatti. The vehicle will depart by 7:00 AM sharp, so ensure you arrive on time.

Enjoy a scenic drive through the picturesque valleys and forested landscapes of Uttarakhand. Along the way, we will halt for breakfast and lunch at local eateries. This road journey offers a perfect introduction to the serene beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas. We aim to reach Hanuman Chatti by late afternoon, where you can settle in and acclimatize to the altitude.

For those who arrive early or wish to explore further, an optional visit to the Yamunotri Temple is possible. The sacred shrine is located just 5 km from Janki Chatti, which is en route and can be accessed by a short drive followed by a manageable trek.

Day 2- 27 Jan 26

  • Hanuman Chatti to Seema Thatch (10 km Trek)
  • Altitude gain: 2400 Meters to 3400 Meters/11,155 feet
  • Accommodation: Alpine tents
  • Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Evening Tea-Snacks + Dinner

After a hearty breakfast at Hanuman Chatti, we begin our Gulabi Kantha trek, heading towards Seema Thatch a 10 km trail that winds through dense pine, maple, and mixed Himalayan forests. The journey offers a serene immersion into nature, with the cool mountain air and forest sounds setting a peaceful tone for the day.

We’ll stop for lunch at Kandola, a picturesque spot surrounded by vibrant greenery—perfect for a short rest and some scenic photography.

By evening, we’ll arrive at the Seema Thatch campsite, a vast alpine meadow that opens up to panoramic views. In summer, the meadows are lush and carpeted with blooming Himalayan wildflowers. In winter, the landscape transforms into a snow-covered wonderland. After settling into camp, we’ll take a relaxed evening walk around the meadow to soak in the peaceful surroundings and perhaps catch a glowing sunset over the distant peaks.

The day concludes with a delicious dinner served at 7:00 PM, enjoyed under the starlit Himalayan sky.

Day 3- 28 Jan 26

  • Seema Thatch to Gulabi Kantha Summit and back to Seema Thatch (5 km one way)
  • Altitude gain: 3400 Meters to 3789 Meters/12400 ft and return to 3400 Meters
  • Accommodation: Alpine tents
  • Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Evening Tea-Snacks + Dinner

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast, fueling up for the most exciting part of the trek — the ascent to Gulabi Kantha Peak. The 5 km trek to the summit is both engaging and visually stunning, with every step offering panoramic views, peaceful meadows, and occasional glimpses of wildlife. As we gain altitude, the landscape opens up dramatically. Upon reaching the Gulabi Kantha summit (approx. 12,430 ft), you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Himalayan ranges. From this vantage point, you can witness majestic peaks such as; Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, Srikanth and the Gangotri Range. You'll also be able to spot the trail leading to Dodital via the Darba Pass—a sacred route associated with Lord Ganesha.

After spending time soaking in the views, capturing photos, and enjoying the peaceful aura of the summit, we’ll begin our descent back to Seema Thatch.

Arrive at the campsite by evening, where you can rest and reflect on the incredible journey before enjoying a hot dinner under the stars.

Day 4- 29 Jan 26

  • Seema Thatch to Hanuman Chatti - Trek back (10 km trek)
  • Altitude Loss: 3400 Meters to 2400 Meters
  • Accommodation: Alpine tents
  • Meals: Breakfast + Lunch + Evening Tea-Snacks + Dinner

After an early breakfast at Seema Thatch, we begin our descent back to Hanuman Chatti, retracing the scenic trail through the forested landscapes and open meadows that marked the start of our journey. Midway, we’ll stop again at Kandola for lunch, offering a chance to relax, soak in the natural beauty, and reflect on the memories made during the trek. This final leg of the Gulabi Kantha Trek is a perfect wind-down, with gentle terrain and stunning views that make every step enjoyable. By late afternoon, we’ll reach Hanuman Chatti, where you can check in, rest, and celebrate the successful completion of your trek.

Day 5- 30 Jan 26

  • Drive: 172 km 5 to 6 hr
